Concerto 3.0.0 - rc3

It’s been a busy summer in Concerto-land. With fall on the horizon and the school season kicking into full swing, Concerto 3.0.0.rc3 is here, and this might be the one that takes us to a stable 3.0.0. Thanks to everyone who’s been filing bugs and feature requests since RC2. Keep it coming!

Smarter Content Fit

We rebuilt how Concerto screens decide which content goes where. Content is now scored per-position for how well it actually fits on the screen, and placed on whichever field gives it the best home. Graphics are judged on their shape, and text wrapping is accounted for more accurately in longer text / HTML content. In tests this produces more consistent graphic and text rendering in the fields you’d expect, and even awkwardly sized content (I’m looking at you - short and long graphic) can find a home on the screen (e.g. ticker).

Iframe Content

You can now embed external web content directly on a screen as its own content type. Got a status dashboard, a public calendar, or some other page you want on the wall? Drop in the URL and Concerto will handle the rest.

Older Screens Welcome

Digital Signage hardware often sticks around for years, and not all of it ships with a modern browser. Replacing your otherwise perfectly fine Smart TV to get a fresher web browser isn’t cost effective. The player now falls back to a legacy JS bundle which supports older WebOS / Chrome displays (starting at Chrome 53). If you have screens running Concerto 2 (or maybe even Concerto 1?) and you’re having trouble getting Concerto 3 to work, we’d love to hear more about your setup and see what’s possible.

A Few Little Things

• Search: Search now indexes all content, not just approved submissions.
• Template Editor: Positions can be fine-tuned with typed coordinates and side handles for super precise positioning.
• OIDC: Fixed a CookieOverflow error some SSO setups were hitting during sign-in, and provisioning failures now surface instead of failing silently.

There should be no breaking changes in this release, just one data migration to reindex existing content for search.
